Update: Time Out Hymn Video

It’s December 18th. Here’s where we stand on the upcoming hymn video.

As it stands, we don’t have enough video and pictures submitted yet. I’m going to do some shooting Tuesday and fill in some gaps. We do have some good stuff from Detroit, St. Louis, Columbus, and the Czech Republic, of all places. I’m quite thankful for Jen B., D. Meyer, and Dr. A. Collver. :)

Many churches are doing their Christmas programs today; photos or videos of such would be cool.

If you have been waiting to send in footage of your church because it has been decked out in Advent blue/purple, and you’d like to show it in white, or if you’d like to send in your completed Advent wreath, I’ll take footage up through Christmas Eve. If you have something really cool planned for Christmas Day morning, let me know in advance, and I’ll save a spot for you.

You can either leave a note for me here or find me on Google Plus / Facebook / Twitter.

A Video About the Hymn Video

I think it took me about 30 takes to get the words right.  Next time, I’ll use a script. :)

Thank You for Listening to Time Out

I wanted to thank everyone who’s been visiting the Time Out site lately.  The last two episodes that have been up for more than a week, Episodes 124 and 125, have been near-record-setting and record-smashing, respectively.

I can think of three factors that pushed 125: the appearance on Issues, Etc., the fact that Time Out had content from the Higher Things conferences, and the fact that 125 was an Overtime.  I don’t know how much is due to each of these things because the referral data looks the same whether someone heard the address on Issues, Etc., and typed it in, someone heard the address by word of mouth at the conference, or from downloading with iTunes or other players. Whatever the reason, thank you!

Yours Truly on Issues, Etc.

I had the pleasure of being a guest on Issues, Etc., for the first time.  We discussed the article I wrote on vocation for Higher Things magazine. I came out of the initial recording thinking I should’ve-said-this and should’ve-said-that, but they made me look good.  I also got to talk a little bit about the Time Out podcast. Thanks, guys!

I guess I should put up a picture, but I’m not quite done losing weight yet. First world problems. :)

Scene Commentary for the Hymn Video

I got a request to comment on some of the scenes I included for the Time Out Hymn Video. It was my intent from the start not to make just a concert video, but to make a video that provided some of its own commentary to accompany the text and music.

Two things guided my approach to write the scenes for the video. First and foremost, we have an awesome hymn text. It would make a news editor almost happy. It tells what happened, who did it, and why, and it has some elements of where and how. It is as true for you as it is for the Christian next to you.

Secondly, Cantor Beethe’s introduction is dramatic and fast. It prompted me to make the cuts for the introduction quick to match the music, with the finishing fade into the hymn.

Time Out Hymn Video Project Released

It has been a month in the planning and making, but Time Out’s first Hymn Video has been released, coinciding with Episode 115 of the podcast. We took LSB 460, “Christians, to the Paschal Victim,” and shot a music video for it:
