Happy Birthday to the NRWife
Monday, July 23rd, 2007

One benefit about marrying a person whose birthday is one day after yours is that you never forget it. We have a similar benefit with Christmas and our anniversary.
I wish the Mrs. a happy birthday, and if you feel so inclined, send her something for putting up with me.

Newark, OH, City Council President Marc Guthrie suggests removing party labels from the ballot in an effort to reduce partisanship. I disagree.
Many times when I have gone in to the voting booth, I have wanted more information about the people I’m voting for. I have never wanted less information.
Candidates have party labels because they [...]

Reuters reports (link dead) that a tower under construction in Dubai has passed Taipei 101 to become the tallest building on the planet.
“Burj Dubai has now reached 141 storeys, more storeys than any other building in the world.”

The Washington Times reports:
Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public [...]

The Christian Post reports that a project is underway to build the biggest cross in the world in Nazareth.
According to a statement on Sunday from Bashir Abdel-Razik, the deputy mayor of Nazareth, the building project has not been pitched to the city, however, and that officials have not OK’d the plans.
They worry about the surrounding [...]

Met Drowning Charlie
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

This evening I got to meet Pr. Charles Lehmann, Assistant Pastor for Youth and Education at Peace With Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, CO. Charlie (he likes to be called) blogs at Drowning Myself Whenever I Can. Drowning Myself was the first Lutheran blog I had ever seen on LiveJournal. He writes great sermons, [...]

Some senators and congressmen think the FDA can make a healthier cigarette than Phillip Morris, R.J. Reynolds, and others combined.
In S. 625 and H.R. 1108, Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Congressman Henry Waxman have introduced the “Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.”
Think about this. Wouldn’t R.J. Reynolds have one heck of a demand on [...]
