$100 Million Goes Undocumented in Ohio
Friday, August 25th, 2006

The Columbus Dispatch reports that a state audit has determined that $100 million of federal money given to Ohio was not spent with proper documentation in 2005. $62 million was Homeland Security money.
In addition to improper accounting of the homeland security money, the audit’s concerns included:

More than $20 million given to 130 charter school operators [...]

Preschool, Zap, and LSB
Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Preschool has had one immediate effect; those kids go to bed fast. Their afternoon naps gone, we need to get the girls to bed sooner. It’s kind of hard though with Grey’s Anatomy and the vice that is Big Brother All-Stars.
I now have enough stuff to install electrical outlets in the “dungeon”; the only thing [...]

First Day of Preschool
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Preschool starts for the twins tomorrow (Wednesday) at a special education center. Half of the kids are “typical” while the other half is “special needs.” We went to the meet-the-teacher open house tonight, and the kids seemed to like the classrooms and the teachers. Each class has a teacher and two or three assistants. [...]

Ohio Considered For Coal to Fuel Plant
Monday, August 21st, 2006

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio is one of several states being looked at for a coal-to-liquid fuel conversion facility, one that would cost $3.5 billion to build but yet remain profitable as long as oil stays above $35/bbl. Unless Iraq and Russia open their spigots wide open and OPEC is smashed, I don’t think [...]

TiVo Wins Injunction Against EchoStar
Friday, August 18th, 2006

Ugh.
AP reports that EchoStar, owner of the Dish Network to which we recently switched to, has been hit with an injunction to cease manufacturing and selling its DVR products. They are also ordered to pay $89 million to TiVo.
DishTV was cheaper than DirecTV, but if they don’t win their appeal their cheaper price may not [...]

Made It Home
Thursday, August 17th, 2006

I got through IAH security quickly. The metal detectors are split into two groups. One set was heavily used, but the other was open, so I took it easily.
When we boarded the plane, the external air conditioner at the gate was weak, so we baked in the plane until the aircraft’s engines hit full power [...]

Parables in Matthew at CEN
Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I stepped into CEN class a little late but still caught Pastor Murray discussing Matthew 12:38-13:23. It would be the last class until after Labor Day.
Notes:
12:39-41: God saves even the horrible Ninevites by his grace. The “something that is greater” Christ is referring to in 41 is himself and his church.
v. 42: The Jews have [...]
