The Payout on Brewing Your Own Fuel

The Houston Chronicle posted an AP report (link dead) about brewing your own ethanol to add to gasoline.
Adding 15 percent ethanol to $3 gasoline reduces the cost to $2.40 per gallon, McClanahan said.
A blend with 85 percent ethanol cuts the cost to $1.09 for a blended gallon, she said.

House Farm Appropriations

AP reports that the House approved an appropriations bill today:
The Milk Income Loss Contract program pays dairy farmers when milk prices fall below a specified level. The peanut storage program pays storage and handling fees as peanut farmers market their crop.

The International Herald Tribune reports that Wal-Mart is pulling out of South Korea, selling its businesses to a local retailer for $882 million.
“Wal-Mart and Carrefour were not aggressive enough in expanding their networks in South Korea,” said Koo Chang Gun at Korea Investment & Securities. “Once they lost the race, they could never catch up.”
