High Schoolers Improve in Economics
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

…but they’re not learning it from their economics class in schools.
The New York Times reports that kids are doing better in economics than in history or science, and they are understanding basic principles of the market. 42% were “proficient” and 79% performed at or above the “basic” level.
An interesting commentary on our education:
But [...]

School Vouchers in DC
Friday, June 22nd, 2007

The New York Times reports that parents are happy to have a choice in schools in the Washington, DC, area, despite no immediate increase in student performance in the first year.
I find an increase in performance something that should come gradually. Parents need time to evaluate school performance and choose schools that perform better. [...]

Letting Kids Watch
Monday, May 7th, 2007

We were sitting towards the back of the church on Sunday, prepared for the necessity of escorting a child out of church with a minimum of distraction to everyone else.
Matins was preceded by the baptisms of two children, one about seven and the other about eleven, by my guess. Baptism are cool to watch.

Virtual PC and Xubuntu
Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Two nights ago I was able to get Xubuntu (a lighter version of Ubuntu Linux) running inside Virtual PC. I had to follow special instructions to get the screen to display correctly, but it’s done. Not everyone at Pickerington Central, [...]

Cleveland Museum Visits
Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

In between visits to the clinic for my daughter Monday and Tuesday, we visited the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Great Lakes Science Museum.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History featured Sue, one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeletons ever exhumed. This skeleton was found in South Dakota and is larger than a [...]

A Whites-Only Scholarship
Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Perhaps you’ve heard by now the Whites-Only scholarship offered by the College Republicans at Boston University. Pardon me while I enjoy this a little bit; there was so much more money that would have been available to me in 1992 were I not white. LULAC, NAACP, you name it.
A couple of things. First:
Coreas said he [...]
