I happened to be at Cafe Connections in Newark, OH, when a Newark Advocate reporter was interviewing the owners. The article appeared in Friday’s Advocate. The article focuses on the cafe’s military wall, which does have a nice collection of patches, newspaper articles, and such.

If you bring your own computer, the wireless internet is free, or you can rent one of their two laptops for $5/hour. If you want, they also have board games and trivia games such as “Fact or Crap.” Two TVs in the corners cover the soaps and CNN.

They have about 15 “creamice” flavors and take suggestions for new flavors. A “creamice” is akin to Starbuck’s Frappucinos. They only come in one size, about 20 oz. The Black Forest, with chocolate and cherries, is quite good. They’ve even tried to simulate a green tea frappucino, but coffee is their forte. As the weather got cold, I latched onto their mocha lattes. They lay on the whipped cream thick enough to keep the beverage hot.

The menu focuses on smaller items, about six sandwiches and four different salads. I prefer an Italian sub, though a chicken salad croissant is a nice change. Even after I’ve had my fill, they’ve let me stay another hour and refilled the water. The service has been quite good.

You won’t catch me there the rest of this year, but I’ll be back sometime next year as the schedule permits. The military connection is another reason to support this small business.
