This time in Cleveland we stayed Marriott’s Courtyard Cleveland Airport South in Middleburg Heights. This was my first visit to a Courtyard brand.

The room was quite large, spacious enough for a wheelchair to maneuver around, but this wasn’t a handicapped room. Our room had two full-size beds which were quite soft. Each bed got four large firm pillows. The room was in good shape and clean. The walls seem to be pretty thin; we could hear housekeeping talking in the next room one morning.

Climate control was handled by the standard wall unit, which worked fine. The satellite TV provided about 15 channels but lacked Disney and SciFi. High-speed internet was provided free of charge through ethernet in the rooms. Wireless internet works only in the lobby and for a fee. The internet worked fine, with a standard confirmation page.

We were able to get a room with a refrigerator and microwave for no additional charge. The window opened to a 3-foot lookout, but with lows in the 30s this wouldn’t have been a good idea. :) There were two outlets in the wall-mounted lamp, but one would have to hunt for more outlets for chargers.

The bathroom was roomy, with a wider bathtub and an arched shower curtain bar. The sink was outside the bathroom and provided enough counter space that we could wash our kids’ glasses and set them to dry. The water was hot enough, quickly enough. Good controls in the shower and in the shower head allowed us to adjust the temperature and spray patterns without much surprise. We had to ask for towels the first night, but the second night the staff provided enough.

The hotel had a restaurant that operates only for breakfast. The breakfast buffet was large but doesn’t come with the room. :) Fresh bananas, pineapple chunks, peaches, and strawberries were available as were the standard bagels and muffins. There were also heated trays for eggs, bacon, and sausage.

The hotel had an indoor pool. The fitness room had three treadmills, an exercise bike, and a leg machine. The guest washer and dryer both were $1 each. The washer did fine, but the dryer had no time indicator. Half the clothes needed to be laid out on the bed.

The exit onto Engle Road is well marked with lit signs. The staff was competent and good to us. The first day I came down to bring breakfast up to the room. At 10am, the restaurant was closing up. They let me have a pick of what was still out on the counter for free.

The Courtyard is nicer than any other hotel we’ve stayed in so far, but I don’t have as many Marriott frequent stay points as I do other programs. The room normally goes for $129 a night.
