BBC reports that Kofi Annan gave his last speech as UN Secretary General in Independence, Missouri, at the Harry S. Truman presidential library. President “The Buck Stops Here” Truman reportedly was an early backer of the United Nations, but he would probably review his backing if he knew the UN in its present condition.

It’s funny that the Secretary General can make a statement such as: “No nation can make itself secure by seeking supremacy over others,” in the library of the President who dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If that isn’t informing the Japanese that we had superior firepower and they had best cease military operations, I’m not sure what is.
