The swearing-in issue is back. Newsmax and others report that Keith Ellison (D-MN) wants to take his oath of office not on the Bible, but on the Koran.
Dennis Prager makes his case for not allowing him to do so:
When all elected officials take their oaths of office with their hands on the very same book, they all affirm that some unifying value system underlies American civilization. If Keith Ellison is allowed to change that, he will be doing more damage to the unity of America and to the value system that has formed this country than the terrorists of 9/11.It is hard to believe that this is the legacy most Muslim Americans want to bequeath to America.
As much as I would like to affirm (pun intended) Mr. Prager, the cat is out of the bag. This district elected an Islamist. If they want their representative to swear an oath on the Bible, they need to start a recall election immediately. Perhaps “what would you swear on, if at all” would be a telling question in pre-election debates.

Yeah, but on the other hand, the Bible doesn’t bind hid conscience. The Koran does.
But the simple fact remains: For Muslims, the law of the Koran is to be saught above all secular laws. He can not truthfuly swear on ANY book that he will support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
