Engadget reports that Parker Brothers’ famed Monopoly game is ditching its cash money, and children will track their assets with a fake VISA card and swiper.
Some people have already lamented the lack of practice in counting money. I agree. I think it’s scarier, though, to trust VISA with all your finances.
One of my co-workers asked, “Do they get the 21.9% APR? Do you get miles for every house you buy?”
Forget VISA: I want the Discover ATM card. $200 plus 1% of expenses upon passing “Go” would be a good thing.

A friend of mine in grade school was both impressed and annoyed by the fact that I added my final Monopoly total in my head instead of using a calculator. This was in the late seventies or early eighties.
On the other hand, maybe some kids could use a few lessons on how APRs and such work. There are kids out there who don’t know how to calculate a percentage tax and don’t know that most of a mortgage payment goes toward the interest on said mortgage!
