During the Senate’s consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2007, Senator Mike Enzi, (Republican-WY) sponsored an amendment that would raise the minimum wage to $5.70 and then $6.25 an hour.
According to Senate roll call 180, Senators DeWine and Voinovich voted for it. A big Thank You to those senators who defeated it.
The lessons to be learned on the minimum wage were known nearly 20 years ago. I’ve covered it here. It cuts jobs, helps labor unions, reduces economic activity, gives kids an incentive to drop out of school, and forces equal pay for different levels of performance.
Senator Enzi has a 96 ACU rating. Election year politics, maybe?

Raising the minimum wage also bolsters the market for illegal labor, because some people would rather work cheaply and illegally than not work at all.
