On my way from Columbus to Houston, Southwest stopped in Nashville. After the plane deboarded, the pilot came on and said there was a ground stop at Hobby. HOU received 10 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Land traffic was stopped by flooding. They were considering skipping HOU and going to El Paso to let those passengers off. That would result in an 8 hour drive back to Houston. Not good.

We left about 30 minutes late from Nashville. They decided to land in Houston. On the way to baggage claim there were some roof leaks over the stairs that made going down the stairs precarious. Despite less than optimal traction on my business shoes, I made it safely. :)

After I picked up my luggage, I waited outside for Hertz. After 15 minutes and no bus, I went back inside, and there was nobody at the counter. I called the 1-800 reservations number, and they had confirmed that HOU Hertz was closed. A sign would have been nice. I ended up renting an F-150 from Avis.

On the way out of the airport I had to turn around, when the main road to I-45 had been blocked (see picture). I found my way via the north Broadway entrance. I still made it to work in reasonable time, but it could have been a lot worse.
