AP reports that President Bush is pushing for the constitutional amendment for one-man, one-woman marriage.

Step aside from the merits of such an action for a second. One of the measure’s chief opponents is Senator Arlen Specter (Republicrat-PA). President Bush supported Specter over the more conservative opponent, Pat Toomey, in the April 27, 2004, primary. Maybe this issue wasn’t as dear to the President’s heart in 2004. A senator with tenure and power to get things done isn’t worth backing if he won’t do the things we want.
