Above the fold on the USA Today that landed in front of my hotel room, I saw this article.

Federal, state and local governments have added nearly $10 trillion to taxpayer liabilities in the past two years, bringing the total of government’s unfunded obligations to an unprecedented $57.8 trillion.

That is the equivalent of a $510,678 credit card debt for every American household. Payments on this delinquent tax bill must start soon if financial promises to the elderly are to be kept.

Well, I hope AARP is happy, backing those who make these ludicrous promises. All we’ve done is generate a society that feels we are owed something. The numbers don’t even contemplate what happens if the Senate blessing of benefits for 11 million illegal aliens goes through.

I so enjoy looking down the list on the left and ticking off the liabilities for the benefits I’ll never see: Social Security, Federal debt exacerbated by pork projects and transfer payments to the “entitled”, Federal and state employee retirement benefits, and “other federal”. If I’m lucky I won’t have to benefit from Medicare, either.

I don’t mind paying for military retirement benefits; it’s cheaper than paying these guys in the present what they’re worth. :)
