We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Liberty, MO, during our visit to Kansas City. The Holiday Inn closest to my parents was booked solid. This “free” trip turned out even better than expected: For 10,000 points a night I could choose between standard smoking, standard non-smoking, or two queen beds in a non-smoking suite with a whirlpool tub. :)

The suite was an L-shaped room-and-a-half, with a hide-a-bed and the TV in the extra space. There was plenty of floor space for exercise, though not much of that was done this week. The TV had around 60 channels with SciFi, Disney, and Food Network. The sofa squeaked, making late-night blogging and photo downloading a small adventure.

Towards the end of the building, the wireless internet was flaky, especially in the mornings. It required two confirmation clicks to get online, instead of the normal one or zero. The room had enough outlets for chargers and laptop.

The beds were soft yet still comfortable. The pillows had cases which marked them as “firm” or “soft”. Two kinds of pillows was a nice touch.

The bathroom was big, but the hotel still chose to put the sink outside and near the room door. The whirlpool tub was large enough for one parent and two three-year-olds. Controls for the tub consisted of just a button. Hot water was in good supply, almost scalding. Instead of a separate shower, the shower sprayed into the tub. With all that open space it made it feel like one was showering outside.

A half-height refrigerator and its freezer worked very well, but the microwave was weak. Hot cereal that normally took 15 seconds took over a minute on High. The Express had the standard breakfast, but we had a Cracker Barrel just across the street. There was a BBQ restaurant near us, seemingly open but never having patrons. Pop is sold from the vending machines for $1 a 12-ounce can. Sometimes the pop machine would take the dollar and not yield product.

The hotel has a small indoor pool. I didn’t have a chance to check out the fitness room.

Entrance and egress from Church Road was constricted. A right-of-way that was next to the hotel had not been built into a full street yet. We woke up around midnight a couple of nights to the sound of a trash truck emptying the dumpster. It would have been nice if they had waited.

We got friendly service, and I would consider coming back. I still have more than enough points. :)
