Reuters reports: “Labor unions representing most of the nation’s 90,000 flight attendants have urged their members to boycott a new Jodie Foster film that portrays a flight attendant and a U.S. air marshal as terrorists.”

The Missus and I saw Flightplan during our last day of vacation. Part of the suspense was wondering if the whole crew were indeed compromised; it was part of the plot rather than social commentary. The air marshal being the primary bad guy was a nice twist, and his point at the end that everyone trusts authority was made quite well. I would say that was more the point than flight attendants suck.

The movie isn’t bad; I found it more like a mystery than a thriller. Jodie Foster doesn’t portray a victim well, but thankfully that part doesn’t last very long. The characters are kind of thin, but the problem-solving was interesting. It’s an OK mystery in the middle of a weak setup and a chase scene through the plane that ends in an explosion. Nothing for flight-attendant unions to be worried about.
