The fires in southwest Oklahoma have reached Duncan, where my wife and I lived for just under two years. AP reports that the Duncan fires are under control for the moment, but nearby cities like Rush Springs have been hit, with a fire line over 8 miles long. Some fires are the result of arson, sad to say.

I’ve not seen much fire activity over here in Fort Smith, but western Arkansas is also under a burn ban. Our fellow trainer Joe has a son who is a volunteer firefighter working his tail off. One of our service coordinators reports that phones and electricity have been knocked out at the camp, and there was a fire from the south of Duncan down to Comanche, 10 miles south of Duncan. Coordinators are using cell phones to stay connected.
