Newsmax reports that a Los Angeles Cardinal is ordering his priests to ignore a proposed federal requirement to check the legal status of parishioners before helping them.
I do think a civil government placing limits on whom the church can help is ludicrous and unenforceable. Yet the Roman Catholics exacerbate the situation by not preaching Romans 13:1-7 to their parishioners:
Mahony told those attending Mass he was not in favor of “unfettered immigration,” but that the current system was inhumane and inefficient. He said stringent laws and government bureaucracy meant immigrants were often separated up to 15 years from family members trying to immigrate.
This seems to ignore the choice illegal immigrants made to break up their own families and violate immigration laws. It’s not the responsibility of the church to shield people from the temporal consequences of their own actions.
