A couple of weeks ago we woke up to find our cedar mailbox and post broken off near the ground and fallen over. Since I’m home this week I dug out the old post yesterday and installed the new mailbox today. The sun was bright enough that my glasses were completely darkened, and I could barely see what was in the 2-foot hole.
The cause of the break is a bit of a mystery: it could have either been rotted out or pushed over. We didn’t see any impact marks on the post, but yet nobody else’s mailbox has rotted out either. Nobody has fessed up.
This afternoon I installed a ceiling fan for the kids’ new play room. Two wall switches operate the light and the fan. The first time I hooked everything up, only the lights worked. I opened the wiring box near the ceiling, reconnected the wires, and closed it. The fan then worked, but the lights didn’t. I opened the wiring box a second time to make sure everything was connected, and now everything works. I don’t know whether I get an ‘A’ for tenacity or an ‘F’ for not getting it right the first time. ![]()
