In the #tabletalk IRC chat room last night, some of us discussed the State of the Union as it happened. Some highlights:

[19:36] Kobra: I’m interested in what he’s going to say about Iran.
[19:40] DanAtNR: I wonder how tough he’s gonna be on Hamas.
[19:41] dm42: That’s a good question.
[19:44] Kobra: Well, the position so far is that the US will not deal with Hamas until they withdraw their operating philosophy.

[20:08] DanAtNR: hmmmm I don’t see any NFL quarterbacks in the stands this time

[20:45] Kobra: Well, regardless of whether or not you support Bush’s policies, I don’t see how you could not call him a great leader.
[20:45] Kobra: With all the opposition he’s had to deal with, he’s held his course.
[20:45] raceon4: the speech isnt bad
[20:45] Maria: *shuts up*
[20:45] ScariSwede: even among his own supporters, kobra

[20:46] DanAtNR: he just rejected amnesty. That’s a shift.
[20:46] raceon4: of course a political science major would say that
[20:46] raceon4: yea i heard that
[20:46] DanAtNR: mr. president, could you please show me the line in the amended Constitution that guarantees affordable health care for the poor?

[20:50] raceon4: eh congress still has to enact it

(regarding tech initiatives to get America off it’s oil addiction )
[20:50] DanAtNR: That can’t make Exxon happy. They’d better pocket that $10B

[21:06] DanAtNR: aye
[21:06] Kobra: Yes.
[21:06] DanAtNR: I missed that
[21:06] Kobra: He said that Hamas must “recognize Israel, disarm, and work for peace.”
[21:06] DanAtNR: heh
[21:07] ScariSwede: let them fight their own wars
[21:07] DanAtNR: Unleash Isreal and Win Peace, to quote Limbaugh.
[21:07] ScariSwede: israel can take care of itself w/o american dispensationalism
[21:08] ScariSwede: american dispensationalism is the driving force to support israel not democracy
