AP and others report that North Korea has agreed “to stop building nuclear weapons and allow international inspections in exchange for energy aid, economic cooperation and security assurances”.

I’m mixed on this. Kim Jong-Il has admitted to lying about nukes before. In the Cold War we had “trust, but verify.” Now it needs to be just, “Verify.” On another hand we’ve been successfully blackmailed into propping up a communist dictatorship, something Cuba couldn’t even do.

I hope this holds, for our safety’s sake. We don’t have the manpower to go into a new country because some crackpot wants to kick inspectors out. We’d have to turn the place into glass.
