I suppose I should give warning for extended absences… :)

I’m through a third of another book, Memorial Day by Vince Flynn. I’m enjoying it so far.  I would recommend what I’ve read so far to those who would like to read about espionage and intrigue but get turned off by the complicated twists and turns of plots by Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy.  I don’t want to give too much away. :)

I’m back in Laurel/Hattiesburg, MS.  The hotel I’m staying at advertised high-speed internet, but for two nights now the system has been down.  Websurfing at 24000 takes me back–too far back.  I went back to the Buffalo Wild Wings.  I believe I am to conclude that to get any decent level of service I need to hang out on the bar floor.  I can handle this, but the bar stools are not the best.  This month’s beer special is a 23-oz. Coors Light for $2.50.  That should be its everyday price.

Tomorrow is the first of the Presidential debates.  I may watch it, with the same level of morbid curiosity that I would watch a NASCAR race.  Why else do we watch these things, if not to see people mess up?  I can’t imagine any benefit we get out of seeing Kerry explain how everyone else is wrong yet not giving details of how he’d do it better, and I can’t imagine President Bush telling us anything we don’t already know.  I think tomorrow’s going to be a trivia night.
