Necessary Roughness is on forced hiatus at the moment. I got caught in the central Ohio ice storm, and my house has had neither power nor heat since about midnight of the 22nd. We have no clear estimate from American Electric Power as to when we will get power back, but broadcast estimates have been saying either Sunday or Monday. When I checked the house today, the inside temperature was 38 degrees. Yes, the water has been shut off and valves opened. Certain reservoirs have antifreeze in them.

Thankfully we live close to my very hospitable in-laws who have power and heat. We have not been completely idle. My in-law’s neighbor has a tree-lined drive that had downed limbs, so my father-in-law and I went over and cleared it for them. The “seasoned citizen’s” son was in Boston and could not help his mom out. We were able to have some Christmas festivities. I’m anxious to try out the keyboard I got for my PDA; the handwriting digitizer is a little worn from plane-blogging.

I hope you all are having a safe holiday season.
