It has been two weeks since the new Buffalo Wild Wings in Bossier City opened. Tuesday is always a good BW3 night—35 cents wings (I remember when they were a quarter) and NTN’s Showdown national trivia game.

Showdown has five rounds of varying difficulty in strategies. Some rounds give you more points for quicker answers. One gives you more points as you get more questions correct in that round. Some rounds deduct points if you get the answers wrong.

The management has brought in a couple servers from Lafayette (one recognized me) to help train the new people. The kitchen was slow; my wings weren’t piping hot but still edible. I ordered 2 groups of 10, received three groups, and initially got charged for four groups. I was hungry so I polished off the 30 and contested the other ten. Beer of the Month was Bud Light, 23 fl. oz. for $3.

The restaurant has already started to build its trivia player base. There were about 25 players in the Showdown, which is pretty impressive even for a BW3. I started out of the first round in 3rd, but the new guys evidently were still getting used to the rounds, and I jumped up to 3000 points ahead of second place after Round 2 was over. This was a lead I maintained until the Final Showdown round, where you can bet half your points. I could have done better; I only got partial credit for the last answer.

The question: What instrument is the Heckelphone most similar to? Given the 5 choices, I had it narrowed down to two instruments, an alto saxophone or a baritone oboe. I guessed saxophone but it turns out to be the oboe. In Final Showdown, you can change your answer for partial credit if it is eliminated from the choices early. If you’re wrong at the end, you lose your point wager.

Even with the partial credit, I still ended up winning by 7500 points and placed a score high enough on the location’s Highest Scores page that it will be there for at least a couple of months. :)
