UPI reports that the Democrat-controlled Senate has rejected a Republican proposal to expand offshore and gas drilling.
The Republican-backed proposal would have allowed states to drill off their coasts and share revenues with the federal government, the (Newport News, Va.) Daily Press reported. The amendment would have amended a federal ban prohibiting offshore drilling along most coastal states, the newspaper said.
The state proposal was packaged with other controversial measures, including drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Looking at the Roll Call Vote, one can see that even Senator Voinovich got this one right. No Democrats registered Yea votes, but the following Republicans apparently like $125 oil and $4 gasoline:
Coleman (R-MN)
Collins (R-ME)
Dole (R-NC)
Martinez (R-FL)
Smith (R-OR)
Snowe (R-ME)
Senator McCain did not vote, but Clinton and Obama did.
