I Can Haz Mad Typing Skeelz

Diane Meyer at Respublica asks, “How fast can you type?” and passes along an online typing test. I was rated coming out of high school typing class at 60 words per minute, so I was a little surprised when I got:

102 words

Speedtest

The test was mostly short words and lasted just a minute, but I thought it was funny. I had 102 correct words and 2 incorrect words.

My college friend Nate noted that he typed out PERL scripts very quickly but scored low on typing exams because the exams don’t measure things like $string =~ m/^\S{1,8}\.\S{0,3}/;. Fair enough.

   102, that is far far better than I did. Spectacular.

   hmm about 60 for me. I type on a regular basis, maybe my fingers are just getting old. Or, I’m just too particular about spelling and editing while I type. I dunno… but I do type a lot faster when typing sentences, rather than random words.
