For Saturday, March 29, Google.co.uk has turned its background black in support of the charity “Earth Hour.” The charity wants people to turn off the lights for an hour, preferably at a time one would have them on: 8:00-9:00pm local time.
Google.co.uk is (and I suppose Google.com will be) showing either humor or hubris on its front page, as it proclaims:
“We’ve turned the lights out. Now it’s your turn.”
Google even admits on the site that changing the color of its page doesn’t save a watt. But hey, we’re all feeling pretty good, huh?

I began to comment, but it grew into a blog post of its own!

Dan, I know that Google said their background was black for “green” reasons, but it was actually a protest for the passing of Issues, Etc.

When I turned NR black for Good Friday, I thought about leaving it black until Issues came back.
