My older daughter is getting a little excited about Palm Sunday. I reminded her about the palm branches and the procession. Looks like our 20″ of snow may finally be gone, too.

I’ve also been working on a hymn with the kids on the piano. It’s nice to have an educated guess as to what will be sung on Sunday without the need for the LSB Agenda or Pr. Stuckwisch’s plethora of suggestions.

Reformation has, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Good Friday, “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded.” Easter, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Alleluia!” Christmas, pick any number of Christmas carols.

Palm Sunday has LSB 443, “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna,” and 442, “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.” We’ve been working with 443, despite my limited experience in the key of A (three sharps). The extra G# took some time to get used to.

I don’t recall a Palm Sunday without Hosanna, and so children prior to reading get gain an edge in participation in addition to memorized liturgy. That said, if the younger daughter started reading out of the hymnal tomorrow, it wouldn’t shock me.
