The older daughter and I made the trek up to Newark, so that I could vote absentee in Ohio’s March 4 primary. I like looking for things to teach her when we go do stuff, like teaching her about milk expiration dates while shopping.

The lesson here, obviously, was that we get to show whether we like some of the rules that we are going to live by, and if enough people vote a certain way, the rules can be changed. We also choose people we’d like to help make some of the rules for us.

The local school district wanted both an income tax and a 28-year levy for constructing school facilities. I couldn’t vote “No” on that quickly enough. The amount was too much, and the school district hasn’t fulfilled its present commitments to begin with.

The county had a 20-year bond issue to construct senior citizens centers. This would be a disincentive to someone who wanted to build centers for profit. If a government center underperforms, we’re stuck with it. For-profit centers that do poorly go out of business.

It seems Ohio has both at-large delegates and district delegates for the primary. It’s nice to vote twice for the same person. :)
