The service today was out of the service folder, but there was still plenty for the girls to participate with us at church this morning.

They knew all of the first hymn, LSB 740, “I Am Jesus’ Little Lamb,” and they sang that quite loudly. During the prayers, the younger daughter recognized the pattern of “Lord, in your mercy; hear our prayer” and joined in. I had to take her to the restroom during the sermon, but as we came back, the Creed was being said. She started saying that quite loudly in the hall and during the return to our pew.

The older daughter joined Pastor Gau for the children’s sermon, which was actually quite good for such things. Some of the older boys got a thrill out of learning that lambs were killed in the temple. :P

Pastor’s sermon on John 1:29-42 was among the best I’ve heard from him, with direct accusations of the breaking of God’s Law and our need for the Atonement. Sure, he had great material to work with, but that doesn’t take anything away from the good job he did.

A sad note: Pastor David Reimann, pastor of St. John’s in Dublin and presenter at my LSB Workshop in October 2006, was reported to have passed away. He seemed quite young; prayers for his family, friends, and congregation.
