UPI reports (link dead) that Democrats have introduced a bill to give cash to U.S. counties that switch from electronic voting machines back to paper. The handout is proposed to cost $500 million.

Federal dollars to go back to paper? The federal government bought 5,407 machines for Cuyahoga County, OH, alone, in 2005 for $14.6 million, according to the Plain Dealer. What a waste.

The ACLU is already concerned (link dead) about Cuyahoga’s return to paper, stating that the collection of ballots in a central location to be scanned prevents people from being notified if there is a voting error. Usually the ACLU is in the tank for Democrats, but not this time it seems.
