This morning was pretty cool: Divine Service III with Holy Communion and five baptisms.
After the service I was told that I would be singing Stille Nacht for the nearly midnight service on Christmas Eve. It had been hinted to me before, but this was the first time I knew for sure.
I’ve sung in German before. About 12 years ago I sung in Beethoven’s Fantasia with the university choir. The NR Wife spent part of a summer in Germany, about as long ago. We looked over the words, which are included with LSB 363. Another prop for the new hymnal.
Just to make sure I had the pronunciation right and the right syllables on the right notes, I did some YouTube searching. Amazingly enough, one of the better versions was performed by none other than David Hasselhoff. I promise not to sing like him — he’s too smooth — but it was an interesting reference. The subtitles are bad, but this is a nice version too.
I will sing the first verse, then the congregation will come in auf Englisch. I was told that some people may join in the German; I’d welcome that. ![]()

I’m sorry, but Hasselhoff singing anything is just wrong, I don’t even care if it’s in German, it’s just wrong, wrong I tell you!
