The second Sunday our church had the Lutheran Service Book, Divine Service III was used. I tried to explain to my older daughter that this was the same music I sang as a kid, as well as my parents, my mom’s parents, etc. Unfortunately she found a new friend in the pew in front of her and thus was distracted from participating as well as I would have liked.
My younger daughter decided she would join us in singing LSB 549, “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” (lyrics) She picked up on the melody and sang the repeated “And crown him Lord of all” lines pretty loudly. Good for her.
During Distribution we sang “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” (lyrics) . I was reminded of a previous time I’d heard that hymn, the recessional for my paternal grandmother’s funeral. That experience lent a new meaning to what we were singing.
