This morning was funny and cool for several reasons:
We were a little bit late. We came in during the announcements. Our normal pew in the back was occupied, so we tried to slide up the side to the third row from the front. Pastor Gau was describing the first Lutheran Service Book Matins service to the congregation, closing with, “and we have Dan to help us sing the congregation’s parts.” Feigning reluctance, I said, “Okay, okay, we’ll try to be here earlier next time!”
Prior to OSLC getting the LSB, the congregation had been doing Matins through a printed order of worship in the bulletin. This time, we did the entire service out of the LSB, with the congregation singing all of its parts except one little Amen. The kids could finally know what was going on. It was very cool.
Pastor Gau preached on the Epistle, 1 John 3:1-3 but pulled some elements out of Matthew 5:1-12, both assigned readings for All Saints Day.
Hymns were 670 “Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones,” 677 “For All the Saints,” and 680 “Thine the Amen, Thine the Praise.” Pastor looked our way on the last hymn and told us to sing it loud.
After the service, the older daughter insisted on telling the organist she played pretty music.
And that was just the morning.
