This morning brought the unusual scenario of the Mrs. having to work on Sunday morning, so the rest of us stayed home and did Matins. The Hymn of the Day for the second Sunday in Easter is “O Sons and Daughters of the King,” LSB 470/471. This turned out to be a very cool thing.
Normally I play through a hymn and sing by myself, but this hymn (470) has three alleluias at the end of each verse that kids can pick up. So I told my daughters that there was a “big people’s part” and a “kids part.” I took first three lines, and the girls as they were able took the last line. We did all nine verses (yes I’m aware there was a tenth in TLH).
I need to dig out some more hymns with some refrains or alleluias.
