Jaysun the TheologyGeek pointed me to a series of video recordings on YouTube published by user nschaub. Pastor Ernie Lassman has 74 videos of basic Christian instruction which are good not only for studying theology but in basic study of instruction.
From the samples I’ve seen, Lassman is confident with his material and except for the lectures on the various millennial views, doesn’t use a lot of notes. His gestures are good, showing zeal without distracting. His visual aids are limited and appropriate, and he projects well without amplification. He ensures that his audience is engaged.
There is some room for improvement: he uses multiple versions of Biblical text, sometimes noting the version on his slides, sometimes not. Also, when he is asked a question, he doesn’t repeat it for the benefit of those who don’t hear the question.
The segments are wonderfully brief, averaging about 10 minutes long. There is good video recording and editing, as the camera moves with the pastor and the PowerPoint slides are cut into the video appropriately. Bravo, guys. Here is one example:
