AP reports that a billionaire is letting homeless and low-income families move into his unoccupied mansions in Hawaii, for the cost of the utility bills. The deal lasts for ten years.
Will these people living in these monster homes be able to come up with the required utilities? They’re homeless or low-income, after all. Maybe they could rent out rooms to boarders and gain income. Maybe start a low-end sandwich business like Alex Spanos first did. They’ll have to do something; they can’t afford Al Gore-like utilities.
Genshiro Kawamoto may get a nice PR boost for his generosity, but he probably just wants someone to keep the cobwebs off his banisters in Hawaii. I wonder if he gets state incentives for reducing homelessness.
