What if Jesus Stayed Dead?

While my neighbor (another Christian) was helping me with landscaping last week, religion came up among other topics of conversation. I don’t remember the exact trail that led us to what we believe in, but I said something Chris Rosebrough has said more than a couple of times on Fighting for the Faith:

“You know, if they pull up the bones of Jesus, I’ll stop believing.”

“What? Are you serious?”

I explained, “Yeah, but it’s OK. You can’t produce the bones of a resurrected God-Man who ascended to heaven.”

St. Paul tells us something similar in 1 Corinthians 15:12-19:

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Pirate Christian Radio will start selling A Skeleton in God’s Closet by Paul Maier. I’ve read this intriguing novel where someone has claimed they have discovered proof that Jesus remained dead. Even though you know the end, it’s still fun fiction to read. If you don’t already have a copy, buy it from the PCR guys to support truly Biblical radio.

I don’t read much fiction (I got enough theology to read), but I enjoyed this book very much.

  2. Steve Newell says:

If Christ wasn’t raised from the dead, we still have the issue of sin that we must contend with. We are back at keeping the Law. We must keep the Law perfectly.

  3. The Skeleton books are great reads! I recently talked with Dr. Maier and was pleased to discover he will be putting out a third book in the series soon. This time around the intrigue will surround St. Paul. I’m glad to see the Pirate Christian is spotlighting a fiction title. I can’t think of a better purpose for a work of fiction than that of supporting solid Christ-centered broadcasting.
