Barack Obama had a speech last night? John McCain might pick Alaska governor Sarah Palin for a running mate? Please. Let’s discuss important stuff.
Topeka, KS, TV station WIBW reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have contracted with a sports and entertainment company to sell the naming rights of Arrowhead Stadium.
I still call the other venue at the Truman Sports Complex Royals Stadium, despite the fact that they renamed it after the team’s former owner and philanthropist, Ewing Kauffman. That was 15 years ago. Arrowhead will always be Arrowhead to me.
As long as they don’t do something lame like “Invesco Field at Mile High.” Or Home Depot Stadium, where we would endlessly hear about the Home (Depot) Field Advantage. While Hallmark would be a nice local tie-in, I’m not sure it’s a good idea:
“While we take a time-out to tend to the injured player on the field, Hallmark would like to remind you that you can stop by one of our Gold Crown stores and send a Get Well Soon card to him at a discounted price!”

Dan!
Just like the Royals Stadium baseball counterpart, in my mind the football structure shall forever be Arrowhead.
Love your Hallmark qualms. Doesn’t really fit for football, does it?
However, “Necessary Roughness” sure does. Why not a stadium named after a blog? Hope there’s money in your household budget.
If not, why don’t all the Lutherans pool our resources and we’ll get it named “The Stadium of the Augsburg Confession”, or something like that.

Scottius Maximus is on to something here! Imagine the witness opportunities that will be possible by naming a stadium! Ablaze! Arena!, oh yeah! Nothing says we’re here to meet you where you are at on a Sunday than by acquiring the bragging rights for a sports venue!
There’s no sense naming it ”The Stadium of the Augsburg Confession” though because Augsburg sounds too ethnic and Confession sounds too catholic and the LCMS is neither!
And as a bonus, every time a sports announcer on a national network mentions the Ablaze! Arena! name the Ablaze! counter could click upward based upon the ratings! Hey, if LCMS tv can do it and have it count, the same can be true of FOX, NBC or CBS! We can reach the 100 million mark and move onto the next prog… movement that much quicker!
