Pastor Culvert had informed me over lunch that if I wanted to see some natural Louisiana I should head to Lake Bistineau, east of Shreveport and southwest of Minden. The park has a variety of campground sizes and modernity, from a lodge to concrete trailer parking spots to a full site with over 10 sleeping lodges, a dining hall, and a swimming pool.
I almost didn’t get down there in time. The sun was 30 minutes from dropping below the treetops, and dusk was settling in near the ground.

Picnic Table Near the Lodge
The lodge on the lake is one of the places that can handle a larger group. The table is practically on the water. |

Boat Dock
Canoes are available to row around the lake. One can also use motorboats. |

Swim at Your Own Risk
“Swim at Your Own Risk” really meant something when there was an alligator in the area. The gator has been moved; I thankfully did not see one. |

Spanish Moss
I’ve seen a lot of Spanish moss on the trees near the training center in New Iberia. It was here in abundance as well. |

Campground on the Water
One of the more primitive sites on the water, one here just gets a parking spot, a grill, and a dock. |
