After “Gender-Neutral” Marriage, Canada Seeks Number-Neutral Marriages

HT: Captain’s Quarters

Canada’s federal Justice Department has released a study saying the nation’s ban on polygamy should be jettisoned, the Globe and Mail reports.

“Why criminalize the behaviour?” she said in an interview. “We don’t criminalize adultery.

“In light of the fact that we have a fairly permissive society … why are we singling out that particular form of behaviour for criminalization?”

When the divine institution is disregarded, it becomes an argument about benefits. I can’t wait until people start to seek spousal and child support from multiple polygamous relationships. Insurance companies already charge extra if the spouse can get insurance from the spouse’s employer. Marriage becomes a sort of legal corporation to them, hiring and firing spouses, ready for its own version of the Department of Labor, OSHA, Sarbanes-Oxley, Affirmative Action, and other regulations. At that point it’s quite a convincing argument for the state to stop handing out marriage licenses altogether.

Although, the Justice Minister (for only another 10 days, yippee!) has said he won’t act on that recommendation.
